GO BIG 2017 Black Friday Healthy Hike: Yahoo Falls Loop

11:00 am - 11/24/2017

@ Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area

4564 Leatherwood Rd
Oneida TN  37841

Instead of shopping on 'Black Friday," earn points towards your 2017 GO BIG patch by joining Park Rangers on a one hour guided hike to Kentucky’s tallest waterfall, Yahoo Falls.

The hike begins at 11 a.m. (ET) on November 24th at the Yahoo Falls parking area located on Yahoo Falls Road, off of Highway 700 near Whitley City, Kentucky. Yahoo Falls is 113 feet tall and flows into the Big South Fork River.

Starting from the Yahoo Falls parking area, the trail descends a series of steep steps to actually pass behind the falls and under one of the largest rock shelters in the area. Then the trail loops around before it crosses a creek at the top of the falls where there are gorgeous views from the towering sandstone cliffs.

This ranger-led hike is free of charge. The trail is a 1.2 mile loop and is rated as easy/moderate but does contain a long set of steep stairs. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear and bring plenty of water. Everyone is welcome. For more information or directions, please call the Bandy Creek Visitor Center at (423) 286-7275.

The GO BIG 2017 Challenge is a year-long park-wide event designed to motivate visitors to go out and explore their park. Participants will earn points by answering questions about the park, becoming a volunteer, taking part in National Park Service programs and events as well as hiking, biking or paddling in the Big South Fork NRRA. If you earn 100 points, you will receive a GO BIG 2017 Challenge patch, and awards will be given at the GO BIG 2017 celebration on December 9.
