GO BIG 2017: Blue Heron Campground Ranger Talk

07:00 pm - 08/19/2017

@ Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area

Oneida TN  37841

Earn points towards your 2017 GO Big patch and join a park ranger at the Blue Heron Campground on August 19th at 7:00 pm for our next Blue Heron campground program. Learn how to recognize and interpret some of the symbols you may encounter while visiting the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

Symbols are used everywhere in our world. Some are universal - a smiley face means joy worldwide! Some are personal - a jar of blackberry jam may symbolize Grandma's kitchen and others are unique while also specific. Even though they are intended to communicate to all of us we all interpret them in different ways based on our life experiences, our bias and perspectives; Learn what the National Park Service’s iconic logo stands for and how a simple symbol and actually say a lot.

The National Park Service hosts ranger programs on a variety of topics every Saturday evening starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend at the Blue Heron Campground. The Blue Heron Campground is located in the Kentucky portion of Big South Fork, nine miles west of Stearns off of Highway 742. This program is free of charge, handicap accessible and all are welcome.

The GO BIG 2017 Challenge is a year-long park-wide event designed to motivate visitors to go out and explore their park. Participants will earn points by answering questions about the park, becoming a volunteer, taking part in NPS programs and events as well as hiking, biking or paddling in the Big South Fork NRRA. If you earn 100 points you will receive a GO BIG 2017 Challenge patch and awards will be given at the GO BIG 2017 Celebration on December 9th.
