Who Are We?
We are a church growing and changing with the times without loosing our traditional teachings. We are a parish that is made up of folks with different backgrounds and different teachings. We are a younger congregation that has something for everyone.
The Church of The Good Shepherd was founded by The Rev. Jason Crowder, a former Methodist layman whom accepted the call to leave the United Methodist Church and to plant a parish of the Southern Episcopal Church. The original church was located between Sweetwater and Niota Tennessee. On July 22,2017 the church suffered a devastating fire that forced the church to relocate. After a lot of prayer the church was relocated and is now housed in the former Blue Springs Baptist Church in Philadelphia Tennessee.
The Southern Episcopal Church was founded in 1962 in Nashville, TN. The Southern Episcopal Church is a direct result of the vision of Christian men and women, who in 1962, found that there were many changes taking place in the Episcopal Church that were not in keeping with the teachings of Holy Scripture. Several of them decided that something must be done that the Church might be kept pure to the "Apostles Doctrine and Fellowship. From this beginning grew the Southern Episcopal Church. In 1965 The Diocese of the South was formed.
The Southern Episcopal Church-Diocese of the South continues to use the Book of Common Prayer (1928 Edition) as its book of worship. While other Episcopal Churches discard the Prayer Book, and the Apostles Doctrine the Southern Episcopal Church seeks to preserve for generations to come the Book of Common Prayer as given to us by the Anglican Reformers.
The Southern Episcopal Church-Diocese of the South is a Church that seeks to preach the pure word of God. We believe the Holy Bible is verbally inspired, infallible and without admixture of error.
The Southern Episcopal Church-Diocese of the South is an apostolic Church that holds the threefold male ministry of Bishops, Priests and Deacons. It is the form of Ministry that our Church has received, and it is the intent of our Church to continue this as a sacred trust from the time of the Apostles.
The Southern Episcopal Church is a Church in which the Sacraments are duly administered according to the historic 1928 Book of Common Prayer.
The Southern Episcopal Church-Diocese of the South is a conservative Church. We therefore reject the so-called "new morality" and the current trend to have churches function as political entities. We do not seek membership in the World Council of Churches, the National Council of Churches of Christ, or the Consultation on Church Union. Hence, we must describe ourselves as conservatives, believing that the preaching of the Gospel is the only proper activity of the Church.
The Southern Episcopal Church-Diocese of the South is an Episcopal Church that believes that its members should know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, through the operation of the Holy Spirit. We believe that each member should have a lively faith in Christ and not a “Sunday only” faith. We preach Jesus Christ crucified and say to all who will hear: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house.” Acts 16:31
Church of The Good Shepherd is a loving Church family, seeking only to serve our Lord. We do this by serving our fellow man who is lost and seeking the way. We are a new parish that has just planted a church in Sweetwater Tennessee. We have heard the call to bring a conservative Episcopal Church to the Monroe County area and we have responded! We have finished remodeling a former restaurant in Sweetwater and are set to hold a Blessing service on 03/22/2016 @ 6:30 pm. and our first official service is Easter Morning 2016 @ 11:00 am.
If you are seeking our Lord in your life and seeking to live your life in our Lord, come let us seek Him together. We are not a strange new cult, but a group of mere Christians continuing in the faith and practice of the Episcopal Church as brought to this country in 1789.
We have not and will not change nor be moved from being a part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Scripture to be the revealed word of God, inerrant and unchanging for all men for all times. We worship liturgically from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.
We believe the worship service should be centered on our Creator and not on a man who merely preaches his Word. We invite you to join us and see how it has ever been done by those who seek only to serve. In service to our Saviour and to our fellow man.
Church of The Good Shepherd is a loving Church family, seeking only to serve our Lord. We do this by serving our fellow man who is lost and seeking the way
We open the doors and hearts of The Southern Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd to ALL people, inviting them to share unity with God and each other in Christ through prayer and worship.
