Dedication. Bearden High School NJROTC has been selected as the official ambassador for the state of Tennessee in the Pearl Harbor 2013 Memorial Parade December 7, 2013. As a NJROTC unit we will not only represent the state of Tennessee but also represent the veterans from the USS Tennessee moored in Pearl Harbor during the infamous attack. It is an honor to be the ambassador of Tennessee but we need your help. The unit must pay for all expenses to attend the parade and the estimated cost for 40 cadets and chaperones is estimated at $70,000.
MISSION: The mission at Bearden High School NJROTC is to empower cadets to continue their education, achieve personal and team goals, becoming self directed, life-long learners, productive American citizens, capable of functioning in a global society. Students are taught in four classes and coached on team competitions in Armed and Unarmed Drill, Color Guard, Academic, Rifle, and Athletics. In addition Cadets travel to various military bases, ships, aircraft squadrons and historical locations designed to broaden experiences and opportunities. Our unit is comprised of over 140 cadets from the local area ranging from 14 to 18 years old.
AWARDS: Our NJROTC Unit is recognized as a top unit having been awarded “Most Improved” 2007/08, “Unit Achievement” 2008/09, and “Distinguished Unit” 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13. This recognition is based on our participation in competitive events, academic standing, and amount of community and school service. Our Drill, Academic, and Rifle teams are highly competitive in area, state, and national competitions. Each year, BHS NJROTC hosts the Knox County League Drill Competition. We need you help to represent the great state of Tennessee.
SERVICE: In support of our primary goal of developing citizenship, our Cadets perform over 1500 community service hours each year, giving back to Knox County and the state of Tennessee. We “clean-up” roads, visit nursing homes, assist residents, and run National Park cleanups. We are a Silver supporter of the Smoky Mountain Service Dogs (SMSD) helping disabled veterans and autistic children earning over $14,000 in donations in 2012 for SMSD.
YOUR HELP: Our Unit receives virtually no money from the school or county. It takes over $20,000 dollars a year in fundraising to effectively run the unit and compete at state and national levels. The Navy provides us with uniforms but we must pay for competitions, athletic clothing and warm-ups, lodging, transportation, and food for travel. We perform various fundraisers each year but invariably run short of time and money goals. This year more than ever we need your help to honor our veterans and represent Tennessee in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to Bearden High School NJROTC. Any and all amounts will be welcome. Thank you for your time and consideration.
